Northwest pilots were using personal laptops, NTSB says
The pilots on Flight 188 that overflew the Twin Cities airport by more than 100 miles, were using personal laptops, according to the National Transportation saftey board.
Pilots Timothy B. Cheney and Richard I. Cole said they were talking, and weren’t lstening to the air traffic control radio, even though they could hear it. According to the pilots, they were talking about the new crew schedule, Cole who was more familiar with the procedure, was trying to explain it to Cheney when they over shot the airport.
No one was injured in the mishap.

At least they were talking about their job, although they were pretty stupid to not be paying attention to the radio. I wonder if there is some kind of rule that prohibits them from laptop use while flying? After all, they're the pilots. They should be piloting.

ReplyDeleteThat is scary and so irresponsible! After watching the show LOST I don't know if I'll ever get back on an airplane! I certainly won't take northwest anywhere from here on out. Good summary, you covered all the questions I had just by reading the headline.

ReplyDeleteThat is disgusting! They have a responsibility to keeping the lives of all passengers including attendants safe. Say if overshooting the twin cities wasn't the call on the radio. It could have been something much more serious. I wonder if pilot have to take some type of oath to protecting the passengers.

I don't believe this one bit. I think they were sleeping or doing something else. I mean if you can hear the radios then you should respond instead of ignoring it. Also how can you overshoot a place by a whole hour talking about a new schedule? That must be one big schedule change!
